2012 Civic Si Versus 2013 Scion tC RS

Recently I purchased a 2012 Honda Civic Si Sedan … after a few weeks of leaning towards the 2013 Scion tC RS.

So what made me change my mind about this decision? Comparing the two of them side by side and reading customer reviews was big help.

Overall the Scion tC RS and the Civic Si’s MSRP is pretty close to the same. At around $22,500 it’s not really a battle over price, but what each car can offer the driver. However, on a side note, it must be mentioned that a base Scion tC 6-speed manual starts around $18,900 … but that’s not what I was looking at, so we’ll stick with the Release Series.

Let’s take a look at the obvious. 4 doors versus 2 doors.

While a coupe is usually “cooler” than a sedan, in this case, it’s the exact opposite. The styling of the Civic Si Sedan is just as good, if not better, than the tC’s. Not to mention, you don’t need to get out and scoot your seat up every time someone wants in or out. Major plus.

Now let’s move on to the engine … my favorite part.

Toyota/Scion gave the tC a little boost in the newer tC’s … giving them a 20 horsepower boost over past generations, but the 2013 release series doesn’t get any special treatment. It keeps the 180 horsepower engine of all the other tCs before it. While the Civic Si gets a power boost with the new 4-cylinder 2.4L iVTEC engine, churning out 201 horsepower, while keeping great gas mileage.

To wrap things up, the 2013 Scion tC Release Series gives you 180HP and 30MPG, with minimal styling enhancements over other tCs, and an interior that looks thrown together last minute. Looking at the Civic Si you get a 200+HP engine with 30+MPG, a sleeker and more aggressive look over other Civics, and an interior that has been well thought out and carefully taken care of.

So if you are looking at the 2012 Honda Civic Si Sedan or the 2013 Scion tC Release Series, my advice is to go with the Honda, you’ll be glad you did.

Starting Again

That feeling you get when you want to start a new project as a designer? Yeah, I have it again.

This time the focus is all on my blog. Not so worried about the portfolio website anymore since I have my full time job. I do however need a place to post photos and videos of things that matter to me most. And someplace I can post things my family can understand.

Ok, let’s be honest, most people don’t understand the stuff I say.

Anyway … for those Internet savvy folks out there, you will notice that, as of writing this, it’s not finished. Oops. Seriously though, I just wanted to get this thing out here. It’s missing a footer with all my cool social links in it. You may also notice that the design is HEAVILY inspired by the design of Path. I know and it was meant to look like it. Not a lot of my family and friends are on Path but the concept makes sense for a blog. Blogging at different points in my life, like creating a path. So I took the idea out of the app and put it in a blog theme.

Expect more soon.
